Ukraine has increasingly used long-range drones to attack Russian oil refineries, fuel depots and other industrial facilities, seeking to disrupt the infrastructure that supports Moscow’s war effort. Nizhnekamsk is in Tatarstan, hundreds of kilometres from the Ukrainian border. The distance underscores the growing reach of Ukraine’s drone campaign, which has increasingly brought attacks to industrial and strategic sites far from the immediate battlefield. Russian authorities said the drones targeted both industrial infrastructure and civilian areas. The attack caused deaths and injuries among people in the city, according to local officials. The strike was among the most lethal attacks on civilians in Russia in recent months, according to Reuters. Russian authorities have condemned the attack and opened a criminal investigation, reportedly treating the incident as a terrorist attack.
