Vardy Tips Tielemans to Help Manchester United Challenge for Premier League Title
Former Premier League Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy has backed Manchester United’s new signing Youri Tielemans to make a major impact at Old Trafford and help the club challenge for the Premier League title.
Tielemans completed a move to United from Aston Villa after the Red Devils activated his reported £35 million release clause. The Belgium international has signed a five-year contract that keeps him at the club until 2031.
Vardy, who played alongside Tielemans at Leicester City, believes the midfielder has the quality to rediscover his best form at United.
The former Leicester striker recalled being impressed by Tielemans from their first meeting on the international stage and later celebrating the midfielder’s arrival at Leicester.
Tielemans spent four-and-a-half years with Leicester, helping the club win the 2020/21 FA Cup and scoring the memorable winning goal against Chelsea in the final. He later moved to Aston Villa, where he became an important part of Unai Emery’s side.
At United, Tielemans is expected to play a central role in Michael Carrick’s midfield, providing experience, passing ability and control as the club attempts to return to the top end of English football.
United have already strengthened their midfield this summer with the arrivals of Tielemans and Andrey Santos, although Carrick has indicated that he would still like further additions before the transfer window closes.
Manchester United are rebuilding under Carrick after a difficult period, and the quality of their midfield will be crucial if they are to close the gap on the Premier League’s leading clubs.
Vardy believes Tielemans has the ability to become a transformative signing for United. If the Belgian midfielder reproduces his best form, his experience and technical quality could become an important part of United’s push towards the Premier League summit.
