The President of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria ATCON, Tony Emoekpere, has assured Nigerians that stakeholders in the telecommunications sector are intensifying efforts to tackle persistent network complaints across the country. Speaking amid growing concerns over poor service quality, Emoekpere said industry operators are working collectively to resolve connectivity challenges and improve customer experience nationwide. According to the ATCON president, all hands are on deck to confront the issues affecting telecom consumers, stressing that operators remain committed to restoring stable and reliable services. He noted that telecom companies, regulators, and infrastructure providers are collaborating closely to ensure network irregularities do not persist beyond the year. Emoekpere emphasized that ongoing technical upgrades and coordinated interventions are already underway to enhance service delivery and reduce call drops, slow internet speeds, and network congestion.

ATCON identified several factors responsible for the current network challenges, including

  • Vandalism and theft of telecom infrastructure
  • Rising operational and energy costs
  • Right-of-Way and fibre deployment challenges
  • Increasing demand for data services nationwide

Industry stakeholders warned that damage to telecom facilities continues to negatively affect service quality and connectivity for millions of users. Protecting communication infrastructure, they said, remains critical to improving network performance. The telecom body reiterated that resolving consumer complaints requires a shared responsibility among operators, government agencies, regulators, and the public. ATCON called for stronger enforcement measures and increased public awareness to safeguard telecom installations classified as critical national infrastructure. The association also reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC and other stakeholders to accelerate infrastructure upgrades and service improvements.

Emoekpere urged Nigerians to remain patient while improvement efforts continue, assuring subscribers that the industry is determined to deliver more reliable telecommunications services before the end of the year. He maintained that with sustained investment, infrastructure protection, and coordinated sector reforms, network irregularities would significantly reduce, restoring confidence among telecom consumers.
