The Federal Housing Authority FHA Has Commenced Construction Of The Gateway

The Federal Housing Authority FHA has commenced construction of the Gateway Estate in Ogun State, a new housing development expected to add about 200 housing units to Nigeria’s national housing stock, in line with a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The groundbreaking ceremony was held at Ofada in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, where the FHA formally launched the project as part of its renewed efforts to address Nigeria’s housing deficit. According to the Authority, the estate forms part of a broader Public-Private Partnership PPP strategy aimed at accelerating housing delivery across the country. Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of FHA, Oyetunde Ojo, said the project represents another step in fulfilling the mandate given to the agency by President Tinubu to expand affordable housing supply nationwide. He explained that the Gateway Estate would contribute significantly to the national housing stock through structured partnerships with private developers.The project is being developed through collaboration between the Federal Housing Authority and private sector partners, including Greenpasture Homes Limited and Akkenog International Company Limited. The development is expected to include a mix of residential units designed to improve access to affordable housing for Nigerians. According to FHA officials, the estate will feature modern infrastructure such as road networks, drainage systems, and utility connections, reflecting the agency’s push for sustainable and well-planned housing estates. The Authority also emphasised that PPP arrangements remain central to its strategy for scaling up housing delivery across urban and semi-urban areas. The FHA further noted that the Gateway Estate aligns with ongoing national housing reforms aimed at reducing Nigeria’s housing deficit, which continues to affect millions of citizens, particularly in fast-growing states like Ogun. Analysts say the project highlights renewed federal attention on housing development, while also reflecting increasing reliance on public-private collaboration to fund and deliver large-scale residential infrastructure. Once completed, the Gateway Estate is expected to contribute hundreds of housing units to Ogun State’s growing urban population and support the federal government’s broader urban development and homeownership agenda.
