Meghan Says She Was Warned of ‘Disturbing Allegations’ Against Father in 2018 The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has revealed that she was informed of “disturbing allegations” against her estranged father, Thomas Markle, in 2018, following renewed claims that he allegedly possessed images depicting child sexual abuse. Meghan said she was deeply distressed by the latest reports and expressed concern for any children who may have been harmed. In a statement issued through her spokesperson on Friday, the Duchess disclosed that a letter containing allegations against her father had been sent to London’s Metropolitan Police and its Royalty and Specialist Protection unit in 2018. She said the letter was subsequently shared with her and that she was assured the allegations were being investigated. The statement followed reports by British media that Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr, had allegedly discovered a collection of images on computers and mobile phones at their father’s former home in Cebu, the Philippines. According to the reports, Markle Jr told investigators that he had found hundreds, possibly thousands, of images and had reported the matter to authorities. Philippine officials confirmed that the allegations were under investigation. The country’s police also secured a computer for forensic examination as part of efforts to establish the facts. Thomas Markle Sr, however, has strongly denied possessing the alleged images, describing the accusations as “sick lies” in an interview with the Daily Mail. He told the newspaper that the computers had not been in his possession since he left Mexico in January 2025 and moved to the Philippines. Markle Sr also expressed anger over the allegations, insisting that he could not have committed the acts being attributed to him. Meghan said her decision to remain estranged from her father and prevent him from having contact with her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, was motivated by a desire to protect them. She said she had trusted the authorities to investigate the earlier allegations and safeguard other families. The Duchess added that her priority was ensuring that justice was served and that the safety and protection of children remained paramount. Meghan’s relationship with her father deteriorated in the run-up to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, which Thomas Markle did not attend. He has never met the couple’s children. The latest allegations have brought renewed attention to the family’s estrangement, although the claims against Thomas Markle Sr remain allegations and he has denied them.bAuthorities in the Philippines are continuing their investigation, while the Metropolitan Police has been contacted for comment.
