The Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN has announced a planned six-hour power outage affecting parts of Ogun State as engineers carry out maintenance work on a key transformer at the McPherson Transmission Substation. The outage, scheduled for Thursday, May 14, 2026, is expected to last from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., during which electricity supply to affected communities will be temporarily suspended. According to TCN, the maintenance exercise is being carried out on the 40MVA 132/33KV transformer at the McPherson Substation. The work is part of routine preventive maintenance designed to improve the reliability and performance of the transmission network. Communities expected to be affected include McPherson, University, and Ogunmakin areas, where electricity distribution will be interrupted while engineers work on the equipment.The company explained that the shutdown is necessary to allow technical crews to conduct inspections and servicing that help prevent unexpected faults and system failures. It also noted that the exercise is aimed at ensuring more stable and efficient electricity transmission in the long term. TCN apologised to residents and businesses in the affected areas, urging them to bear with the temporary inconvenience, while assuring that power supply will be restored immediately after the maintenance is completed.

Electricity distribution companies serving the affected areas are expected to comply with the shutdown window, as they rely on bulk transmission from TCN substations to supply customers.
