NFF Sacks Super Falcons Coach Madugu After WAFCON Disappointment The Nigeria Football Federation NFF has sacked Justine Madugu as head coach of the Super Falcons and ordered the team’s entire technical crew to step down with immediate effect.

The decision follows Nigeria’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations WAFCON and the team’s subsequent failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The NFF Executive Committee announced the decision in a brief statement but did not give a specific reason for the directive. The federation said members of the Super Falcons’ technical crew should leave their positions immediately. Nigeria’s WAFCON campaign ended in the quarter-finals after a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon, marking the first time the Super Falcons had failed to progress beyond that stage of the competition. The setback was followed by another major disappointment in the African qualifying playoffs for the 2027 World Cup. Nigeria lost 2-1 on aggregate to South Africa, ending the country’s hopes of appearing at the tournament in Brazil.

Madugu had apologised to Nigerians after the Cameroon defeat and said he took responsibility for the loss. The NFF has not yet announced Madugu’s replacement. However, reports indicate that the federation could consider a return for former Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum as it begins the process of rebuilding the team. Madugu’s departure comes after a turbulent period for Nigerian football, with the Super Eagles also missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup and several youth national teams facing qualification setbacks. The NFF will now face pressure to appoint a new technical team capable of restoring the Super Falcons’ status as one of Africa’s dominant women’s football sides.
