Miley Cyrus Reveals Final Conversation With Dolly Parton

Singer Miley Cyrus has opened up about her final conversation with her late godmother, country music legend Dolly Parton, revealing that their last discussion centred on Cyrus’ new album and the relationship between public image and authenticity. Speaking to DJ and producer Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Cyrus became emotional as she recalled her close bond with Parton, who died on August 25 at the age of 80 following a brief battle with cancer. Cyrus said her final conversation with Parton was about her upcoming record, Bass Persuades. She explained that Parton had long been the first person she sent a vinyl copy of her new music to whenever one was produced. Cyrus said she intended to send Parton a copy of the new album as she had always done. The singer reflected on how different she and Parton were, while saying those differences were part of what made their relationship special. Cyrus credited Parton with helping her understand how to maintain a public persona without losing her sense of identity. She recalled navigating fame through her Hannah Montana years and said Parton’s example showed her that it was possible to have a larger-than-life public image while remaining authentic away from the spotlight. Cyrus also recalled Parton’s advice about her tendency to become emotional during live performances. According to Cyrus, Parton encouraged her to allow music to serve as an escape for audiences and to continue performing even when emotions became overwhelming. Cyrus described Parton as one of the older-generation figures who had helped build the path she now follows in the entertainment industry. She said she had often relied on Parton for advice and acknowledged the difficulty of losing someone she could previously turn to when she needed guidance. Cyrus also reflected on their musical history, including performing together, and said Parton’s influence would remain part of her life and career. Parton’s death was announced on August 25. Cyrus subsequently paid tribute to her godmother, describing their most meaningful moments as private and saying she would honour Parton’s memory through music and by continuing forward.
