Food Artist on Wuthering Heights Giant Chocolate Strawberries with Margot Robbie Food artist describes the thrill of seeing Margot Robbie bite her huge chocolate strawberries on the set of Wuthering Heights made last minute for the film’s surreal aesthetic A British food artist has shared her excitement about seeing Margot Robbie holding and biting into giant chocolate strawberries she created for the set of Wuthering Heights a visually striking reimagining of Emily Brontë’s classic novel. The special strawberries were commissioned in a hurry when the original props didn’t meet the production’s expectations.
The production team behind Wuthering Heights reached out to food artist Sarah Hardy, known for her intricate dessert creations, on short notice with an urgent request to make oversized strawberries that were both realistic in appearance and edible.
Director Emerald Fennell wanted elements that felt surreal and dramatic to enhance the film’s stylistic atmosphere. The strawberries were meant to visually stand out on camera while still allowing Robbie to bite into them believably.
Hardy described the job as an “emergency,” noting she had to create about twenty six-inch tall strawberries over the weekend.
The strawberries were crafted almost entirely out of sugar-based chocolate, designed to hold their shape during filming without flopping a significant challenge for such large, delicate props.
To mimic authentic strawberry “pips,” Hardy affixed sesame seeds individually to the surface to give them a convincing look.
Despite looking visually striking, Hardy admitted the strawberries didn’t taste particularly great, describing them plainly as just sugar but said she was thrilled to watch them used and eaten on screen.
The artist said watching Robbie take a bite during filming and promotional materials was “really exciting”, even if she never got the chance to tell the actress herself how they were made.

This quirky detail highlights how filmmakers and artists collaborate behind the scenes to produce memorable visuals even at the cost of taste! From oversized edible props to custom design work, such creative choices contribute to a film’s unique aesthetic and help evoke mood, texture, and surreal tone for audiences.
