Five Die In Gombe-Lagos Road Crash As CSO Gives GUO Logistics 72-Hour Ultimatum
Five Die in Gombe-Lagos Road Crash as CSO Gives GUO Logistics 72-Hour Ultimatum A road accident involving a passenger bus and a truck reportedly belonging to GUO Logistics has claimed five lives and left several others injured, prompting a civil society organisation to issue a 72-hour ultimatum to the transport company. The organisation, Citizens for Good Governance, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Initiative, is demanding that GUO Logistics immediately engage the families of the deceased and injured passengers, provide medical assistance to survivors and address concerns arising from the tragedy. It warned that failure to demonstrate meaningful action within the stipulated period could trigger nationwide peaceful protests and mass picketing of the company’s offices and operational facilities. According to a statement signed by the organisation’s Director-General, Comrade Danesi Momoh Prince, the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus conveying more than 23 passengers from Gombe State to Lagos State. The organisation said a truck reportedly belonging to GUO Logistics rammed into the passenger bus, killing five people, including students travelling to Lagos for their mandatory Industrial Training (IT).

- Maigana Mohammed, popularly known as Abbati.
- Anas Abubakar, the bus driver.
- Zaiyanu Bajoga.
- Abubakar Ibrahim.
Several other passengers reportedly sustained injuries and required medical attention. The organisation expressed concern over the welfare of survivors and the circumstances surrounding the company’s response to the accident. It accused the company of allegedly prioritising its corporate reputation over the welfare of victims and their families, calling for urgent humanitarian assistance.
- Immediate contact with families of the deceased and injured passengers.
- Urgent financial and medical assistance for survivors.
- Engagement with bereaved families on appropriate compensation.
- A public statement explaining the company’s response to the accident.
- An official communication channel for affected families.
- Full cooperation with authorities investigating the incident.
The organisation clarified that its 72-hour ultimatum was intended to secure immediate assistance and engagement, rather than force the company to conclude an accident investigation within three days..the CSO warned that failure by GUO Logistics to meet its demands could lead to peaceful demonstrations and mass picketing at the company’s offices and operational facilities across Nigeria. It also threatened to petition relevant regulatory and law enforcement agencies to ensure that the incident receives appropriate attention and that any legal responsibilities are established. The organisation called on government authorities, student groups, civil society organisations and concerned Nigerians to support efforts to secure justice for the victims and assistance for survivors. Reacting to allegations that victims and their families had been abandoned, a GUO Logistics management staff member rejected the claims, insisting that company representatives had been actively involved since the accident occurred. The staff member said company personnel were present at the general hospital where victims were taken, remaining there from the early hours until approximately 1 a.m. The representative further claimed that company officials were present when victims were transported back to Gombe State and had continued visiting hospitals and the police station to follow up on the incident. The company therefore maintained that it had been responding to the situation since the crash. The organisation acknowledged that the precise circumstances of the accident and legal responsibility must be established through a thorough investigation. However, it insisted that medical assistance for survivors and support for bereaved families should not be delayed while investigations continue. It maintained that the families of the deceased deserve answers, while injured passengers require urgent medical attention and appropriate support.
