FG Strengthens Collaboration Between NASRDA and UBEC to Boost Basic Education The Federal Government of Nigeria has intensified collaboration between the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) as part of efforts to bolster basic education delivery, leveraging geospatial, data-driven and technology-led solutions across the country.
The move was highlighted at a recent high-level follow-up meeting this week, where the Director-General of NASRDA, Dr. Adepoju, held strategic discussions with UBEC’s Executive Secretary to further map out how space-enabled data and analytics can strengthen planning, monitoring and evaluation of basic education programmes nationwide. NASRDA’s technical expertise in geospatial mapping and data analytics is expected to support UBEC’s education planning processes enabling better identification of underserved school communities, optimizing the placement of new facilities, and improving evidence-based decision making to reduce inequalities in school access.
This partnership aligns with ongoing digital transformation projects in the education sector, which include digital quality assurance systems and automated data collection for school performance evaluation efforts previously supported through technical collaboration between NASRDA and UBEC.
Officials emphasised that the strengthened cooperation is part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which places a premium on education, technology, skills development and human capital enhancement especially at the foundational level of basic education. By integrating geospatial data analytics with education service delivery systems, policymakers hope to improve resource allocation, ensure efficient deployment of teachers, monitor real-time school progress, and ultimately enhance learning outcomes for millions of children across Nigeria.
