Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi and the All Progressives Congress APC governorship candidate in Ogun State, has threatened to take legal action against two political figures over allegations concerning his state of origin. Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, gave Hon. Abayomi Hunye, a suspended APC member from Tube in Ipokia Local Government Area, and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 24 hours to substantiate claims made about his background or face libel proceedings. The senator’s threat comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election. According to a statement issued by his media adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, Hunye and Marcus-Bello made the allegations during appearances on Channels Television programmes. The two political figures allegedly claimed that Adeola is an indigene of Ekiti State, among other assertions concerning his background. Adeola rejected the claims, describing them as false, defamatory and unsupported by evidence. He challenged his accusers to produce proof of their allegations within 24 hours or face legal proceedings. “I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof,” Adeola said, according to the statement. He specifically challenged one of the individuals who allegedly claimed he was from Ekiti to identify the exact location in the state, saying no answer was provided when the person was questioned. Adeola’s media adviser said questions about the senator’s origin had previously surfaced during campaigns against his bid to represent Ogun West in the National Assembly. Odunaro alleged that the issue has now resurfaced as Adeola prepares to contest for the Ogun governorship under the APC ahead of the 2027 election. The senator accused his critics of attempting to use claims about his ancestry as a political weapon. He also rejected statements concerning the locations of his parents’ graves, describing those claims as another attempt to support what he called an “unsustainable falsehood.” Adeola issued a direct challenge to the two political figures, demanding that they substantiate their allegations or prepare to defend themselves in court. “Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits,” he said. The threat means the controversy over his ancestry could move from political debate into the courts if the parties fail to resolve the dispute or provide evidence demanded by the senator. Adeola has represented Ogun West in the Senate since 2023, having previously represented Lagos West in the Senate between 2015 and 2023.
