FG Advances Digital Learning, Girls’ Education and Teacher Development with ICT Support for 15 Colleges of Education The Federal Government has reinforced its commitment to digital learning, girls’ education, and teacher capacity development with the distribution of Information and Communication Technology ICT facilities and teaching tools to 15 Federal and State Colleges of Education across the country. The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s education reform efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The intervention is being implemented under the project titled “Capacity-Building of Teachers to Promote Continuous and Inclusive Access to Safe and Quality Education for Girls in West Africa,” funded by the Government of Japan through the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa UNESCO-IICBA. The programme is designed to strengthen teacher education, improve learning outcomes, and expand access to quality education, particularly for girls and vulnerable learners.According to the Federal Ministry of Education, the project goes beyond the provision of digital equipment and represents a strategic investment in teacher professional development, educational innovation, and inclusive learning systems. It seeks to address key challenges facing the education sector, including learning poverty, gender inequality, shortages of qualified teachers, and the growing population of out-of-school children.The programme covers six West African countries and is expected to support the development of gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive education systems capable of delivering improved learning outcomes. It also promotes the integration of digital technology into teaching and learning processes while strengthening teacher-training institutions across the region.

Under the intervention, beneficiary institutions will receive a wide range of ICT equipment, including 65 laptop computers, 71 tablets, four desktop computers, five interactive smart boards, 19 all-in-one desktop computers, 14 projectors, 15 printers, and 15 backup hard drives. These resources are expected to enhance digital literacy, improve classroom delivery, and support teacher training programmes.

Implementation is being carried out in collaboration with the African Union International Centre for the Education of Girls and Women in Africa AU/CIEFFA and the African Union Education, Science, Technology and Innovation ESTI team. Beneficiaries also include teacher educators, school inspectors, primary and secondary school teachers, and other stakeholders within the education sector.

The Federal Government stated that the initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to leverage technology for improved educational outcomes, strengthen teacher effectiveness, and expand opportunities for girls to access safe, inclusive, and quality education. The intervention further demonstrates the administration’s determination to build a digitally enabled and future ready education system capable of meeting the demands of the 21st-century knowledge economy.
