President Tinubu appoints Professor Segun Aina as new JAMB Registrar President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB, in a major leadership change within Nigeria’s tertiary education examination system. The announcement was contained in an official statement from the Presidency, confirming that Professor Aina will succeed the outgoing Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose tenure is expected to end on July 31, 2026. Professor Aina, a Computer Engineering scholar and academic at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is widely regarded for his expertise in digital systems, educational technology, and institutional reform within Nigeria’s academic sector.

According to the statement, the appointment is part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to strengthen education governance, improve examination processes, and deepen the use of technology in national assessment systems. Aina, who became a professor at the age of 39, is known for his work in computer engineering research and his contributions to digital infrastructure development in Nigeria’s education sector.The Presidency noted that his experience in both academia and technology-driven reform makes him well-positioned to oversee JAMB’s operations, particularly at a time when the Board continues to expand its digital examination systems and improve service delivery to candidates nationwide.

Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who has served as JAMB Registrar since 2016, is widely credited with transforming the examination body into a more transparent and technology-driven institution during his tenure. With this appointment, stakeholders in the education sector are expected to closely watch how Professor Aina will build on ongoing reforms, especially in the areas of UTME administration, result processing, and examination integrity. The new appointment is also part of a series of leadership changes across federal education agencies as the Tinubu administration continues restructuring key institutions.
