2027 NDC Clears Peter Obi To Contest Presidential Primary

The Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC has cleared former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, to contest its presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general election after a screening exercise held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. The party’s National Screening Committee said Obi satisfied all constitutional and party requirements and successfully responded to questions on his leadership vision, governance plans, and national development agenda. According to the committee, the former presidential candidate was issued a formal clearance after what officials described as a thorough and transparent screening process.

Reflecting on the session, Obi said the committee carefully reviewed his documents and also engaged him on his vision for a “new Nigeria” and the kind of leadership the country urgently needs. He stated that the screening lasted for over two hours, during which he addressed questions on governance, national unity, and economic recovery strategies. The screening committee, led by a former Minister of Education, Sam Egwu, confirmed that Obi met all requirements under the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act, as well as internal party guidelines.
