Oyo Govt, Security Agencies Clear Ibadan Streets of Beggars and Destitutes, Move Them to Rehabilitation Centres The Oyo State Government, in collaboration with security and environmental enforcement agencies, has cleared major streets in Ibadan of beggars and destitutes, relocating those arrested to rehabilitation and care facilities for profiling and support. The coordinated enforcement exercise was carried out across major parts of Ibadan as part of ongoing efforts to restore environmental order, public safety, and urban cleanliness in the state capital. The operation involved the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority OYRLEA, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the Nigeria Police Force, the Amotekun Corps, and the Environmental Task Force.Officials said the exercise covered key areas including the Beere, Mapo, and Oja’ba corridors, where several destitutes and street beggars were apprehended during the clearance. Those arrested were transported in buses to the Internally Displaced and Destitute Home in Akinyele Local Government Area, where they are to be profiled, rehabilitated, and provided with welfare support. The Chairman of the Oyo State Environmental Task Force, retired DCP Francis Ojomo, led the operation, alongside other senior officials of the enforcement agencies. Authorities stated that the exercise is part of a broader plan to discourage street begging, reduce environmental nuisance, and improve safety on public roads and walkways in Ibadan. Oyo State has carried out similar evacuation and rehabilitation exercises in previous years as part of urban renewal and public order policies. These operations often involve relocating beggars, destitutes, and vulnerable individuals to state-run rehabilitation centres for care, profiling, and reintegration efforts.

The clearance reflects ongoing government efforts in Oyo State to balance urban development and public order with social welfare concerns, especially regarding vulnerable populations found on major roads in Ibadan.
