Federal Government, WHO Finalise Results-Driven Health Workplan for 2026–2027 The Federal Government of Nigeria and the World Health Organization WHO have finalized a comprehensive results-driven health workplan for the 2026–2027 period, aimed at strengthening the nation’s healthcare system and accelerating progress toward universal health coverage. The development marks another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, disease prevention, health emergency preparedness, and access to quality medical services for Nigerians. The initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritizes human capital development and healthcare sector reforms. The two-year strategic framework was finalized during high-level engagements between officials of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and representatives of the WHO. The workplan is expected to guide collaborative interventions across critical areas of the health sector, including maternal and child health, immunization, communicable and non-communicable diseases, nutrition, health workforce development, and emergency response systems. Speaking during the engagement, government officials emphasized the importance of evidence-based planning, accountability, and measurable outcomes in achieving sustainable improvements in healthcare delivery nationwide. The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to strengthening partnerships with international development organizations and stakeholders to ensure efficient implementation of priority health programmes. The WHO commended Nigeria’s continued efforts toward health sector transformation and reaffirmed its support for policies and programmes aimed at improving public health outcomes. The organization noted that the finalized workplan reflects shared priorities and a coordinated approach toward addressing existing healthcare challenges while building resilient health systems across the country. According to stakeholders, the results-driven framework will focus on performance monitoring, strategic resource allocation, and community-centered healthcare interventions to improve service delivery and health indicators nationwide.
