NAF Partners Agriculture, Livestock Ministries To Boost Food Security
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to strengthen food production and enhance national food security. The collaboration aims to deploy military logistics, technical expertise, and operational support to agricultural and livestock initiatives across the country, aligning with the Federal Government’s broader strategy to tackle food shortages and rising food prices. According to officials, the partnership will focus on improving access to farmlands, protecting agricultural investments, and supporting large-scale farming and livestock development projects nationwide. Speaking during the engagement, NAF representatives highlighted the military’s expanding role beyond traditional security duties, noting that national stability is closely linked to food availability and economic resilience. The Air Force pledged to provide aerial surveillance, transportation support, and security assistance to farming communities and agricultural infrastructure. The agriculture ministry emphasized that collaboration with security institutions is essential to restoring farmers’ confidence, particularly in regions affected by insecurity, which has significantly disrupted food production in recent years. Similarly, the livestock ministry stated that the initiative would help modernise livestock production, improve grazing management systems, and strengthen value chains within the livestock sector, thereby contributing to sustainable food systems. Officials noted that insecurity, climate challenges, and logistical constraints have remained major obstacles to Nigeria’s agricultural productivity. The new partnership is expected to address these challenges through coordinated planning, improved mobility, and enhanced protection for farmers and agribusiness operators. Stakeholders believe the initiative could accelerate ongoing federal efforts to diversify the economy away from oil dependence while boosting rural livelihoods and reducing reliance on food imports.
The collaboration forms part of a broader government push to integrate security agencies into national development programmes aimed at achieving long-term food sufficiency and economic stability.
