OPay Expands ₦1.2bn Scholarship Scheme, Signs MoUs With 4 Institutions, Now Covers 24 Schools Fintech firm deepens education support initiative, offering ₦300,000 yearly scholarships to undergraduates across Nigeria Financial technology company OPay has signed new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four additional tertiary institutions in Nigeria, expanding the reach of its ₦1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship programme aimed at supporting undergraduate education across the country. The new partner institutions include Benue State Polytechnic, Kogi State Polytechnic, Montgomery Polytechnic in Ekiti State, and Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ebonyi State. With this latest expansion, the programme now covers 24 tertiary institutions nationwide. The initiative is designed to provide financial assistance to academically outstanding but economically disadvantaged students. Under the scheme, 20 students in each participating institution will receive annual scholarships worth ₦300,000. OPay stated that the programme is part of its long-term corporate social responsibility commitment to improving access to education and reducing financial barriers for students in higher institutions.
According to the company, the scholarship scheme continues to grow steadily, with earlier phases already benefiting hundreds of students across Nigerian universities and polytechnics. The fintech firm reiterated its goal of building a more inclusive education support system, noting that the expanded partnerships reflect its commitment to empowering young Nigerians through sustained investment in education.
