President Tinubu Directs Renewed Hope Ambassadors To Distribute Rice Nationwide During Ramadan And Len
President Tinubu Directs Renewed Hope Ambassadors to Distribute Rice Nationwide During Ramadan and Lent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to begin the nationwide distribution of rice to Nigerians observing the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent. The directive aims to provide support to millions of citizens across the country who are currently fasting and facing rising living costs. The directive was disclosed in a statement by Hope Uzodimma, who serves as the Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors. According to Uzodimma, the programme will see rice distributed across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to assist both Muslim and Christian communities during the fasting period.
He explained that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to national unity and compassion, especially during religious seasons that emphasize charity and sacrifice. The rice distribution will be coordinated through the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ nationwide grassroots network, which spans states, local governments, and wards to ensure that the support reaches families across the country. Nigeria has 774 local government areas and about 8,809 wards, structures expected to be used in delivering the food support to communities nationwide. The intervention comes at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with rising food prices and economic pressure, partly linked to global market disruptions and increases in fuel prices that have affected the cost of goods nationwide. Officials say the initiative is meant to cushion the impact on households during the period of fasting.
Uzodimma noted that Ramadan and Lent are periods that encourage reflection, sacrifice, and generosity, adding that the programme will promote solidarity among Nigerians of different faiths. He said the initiative underscores the president’s belief in supporting citizens during important religious observances while strengthening interfaith harmony across the country. The government also noted that a similar food support initiative was carried out during the Christmas season, when rice was distributed to assist families celebrating the festive period. Officials say the latest intervention continues the administration’s effort to stand with Nigerians during significant cultural and religious events.
Through the programme, both Muslim and Christian communities are expected to benefit as the government seeks to promote inclusivity, unity, and shared national values during the fasting seasons.
