Iran says it “never asked for a ceasefire” in war with Israel and US

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran has “never asked for a ceasefire” in its ongoing conflict with Israel and the United States.Speaking in a television interview, Araghchi rejected claims that Iran had sought to halt the fighting or enter negotiations, insisting the country was prepared to continue defending itself. His comments come after Donald Trump, the US president, said Iran wanted to reach a deal to end the conflict but that the proposed terms were “not good enough.” Araghchi said Tehran had not asked for a ceasefire or negotiations, contradicting suggestions from Washington that talks could soon take place. “We have never asked for a ceasefire,” he said, adding that Iran was prepared to continue its response for as long as necessary. Iranian officials have repeatedly argued that the conflict began after attacks by Israel and its allies, and they say Iran is acting in self-defence. President Trump said in an interview on Saturday that Iran appeared interested in making a deal to end the war. However, he said the conditions being discussed were not acceptable to the United States, suggesting that further military pressure could continue while negotiations remain unresolved. The war between Iran, Israel and the United States has intensified in recent weeks, with air strikes, missile attacks and drone strikes reported across the region. Thousands of people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced, while global oil markets have been affected by disruption to shipping routes in the Gulf. Despite diplomatic efforts, there is currently no confirmed agreement for a ceasefire, and fighting continues across multiple fronts in the Middle East.
