UK Government Charters Flight from Oman to Evacuate British Nationals as Regional Attacks Continue The UK government has arranged its first dedicated repatriation flight from Muscat, Oman, to assist British nationals wishing to leave the Middle East amid ongoing attacks and airline disruptions across the region. The flight is set to depart on Wednesday evening, with vulnerable passengers given priority.

  • The repatriation flight will take off from Muscat International Airport at 23:00 local time (19:00 GMT).
  • It is aimed at British citizens, their spouses or partners, and children under 18.
  • The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said seats will be offered to registered nationals and that people should not travel to the airport unless contacted.
  • Priority is being given to the most vulnerable passengers.

Government Position Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper confirmed the charter flight in the House of Commons, emphasising that the UK is working with airline partners to increase capacity out of Muscat and is supporting tens of thousands of Britons stuck across the region. Officials have also established a rapid deployment support team in Oman to assist British nationals on the ground. Air travel in the Middle East has been severely disrupted due to escalating regional tensions following United States and Israeli strikes on Iran, and Iran’s subsequent retaliatory actions. Major commercial flights from Gulf hubs such as Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi have been cancelled or delayed as airspace closures persist, prompting repatriation efforts by multiple countries.Up to 130,000 British nationals have registered with the UK Foreign Office as being in the Middle East and Gulf region, including holidaymakers, business travellers and those stranded due to travel cancellations. International Actions:
Other nations including France, Germany, Italy and Australia have also launched or are planning repatriation flights for their citizens.
The UK Foreign Office continues to advise British nationals in affected areas to stay in contact with the FCDO, register their presence, and follow travel advisories.
