Paul McCartney, Olivia Dean Among Stars Shortlisted for 2026 Mercury Prize The shortlist for the 2026 Mercury Prize, one of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious music awards, has been announced, with music legend Paul McCartney earning his first-ever nomination alongside chart-topping singer Olivia Dean, former winner Dave, RAYE, Florence The Machine and several other acclaimed artists. McCartney, 84, received his maiden Mercury Prize nomination for his solo album The Boys of Dungeon Lane, a deeply personal record reflecting on his childhood in Liverpool and the friendships that shaped the early years of The Beatles. Despite a career spanning more than six decades and numerous Grammy and Brit Awards, this marks the first time the former Beatle has made the Mercury Prize shortlist. Joining him on the 12-album shortlist are Olivia Dean for The Art of Loving, Dave for The Boy Who Played the Harp, RAYE for her second studio album, Florence The Machine with Everybody Scream, Suede with Antidepressants, Jade, Nia Archives, Kojey Radical, Dove Ellis, Knats and the charity compilation album Help2. The diverse list features both established stars and emerging talent from across the UK and Ireland. The Mercury Prize, established in 1992, celebrates the best album released by a British or Irish artist each year, regardless of commercial success or genre. Winners are selected by an independent panel of judges, with the award widely regarded as one of the most influential honours in British music.This year’s shortlist has been praised for its diversity, with eight of the twelve nominated albums created by artists of colour. The winner of the 2026 Mercury Prize will be announced during a ceremony at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on 22 October, with the recipient receiving the coveted trophy and a £25,000 cash prize.
