Wike70% of FCT Infrastructure Projects Completed Under Tinubu Were Abandoned Contracts The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that about 70 per cent of the infrastructure projects completed by the FCT Administration FCTA under President Bola Tinubu were inherited contracts that had been abandoned for between 15 and 16 years. Wike made the disclosure while highlighting the progress of the FCT Administration’s infrastructure drive, stating that many of the projects currently being delivered were not new initiatives but unfinished developments inherited from previous governments. According to the minister, the FCTA under the Tinubu administration focused on reviving stalled projects, completing abandoned contracts and ensuring that taxpayers’ resources already committed to those projects were not wasted. He said several infrastructure projects across the nation’s capital had remained unattended for more than a decade before the current administration took steps to restart and complete them. Wike explained that the decision to prioritise abandoned projects was aimed at improving public infrastructure, addressing long-standing development gaps and providing residents with facilities that had been delayed for years. The minister noted that the completion of the projects reflected the administration’s commitment to delivering visible improvements in roads, public facilities and other critical infrastructure within the FCT. He added that rather than abandoning inherited projects and starting entirely new ones, the FCTA chose to complete existing commitments where appropriate to ensure value for money and faster delivery. The FCT minister has repeatedly emphasised infrastructure development as a major priority of his tenure, with several road, transport and urban renewal projects being undertaken across Abuja and surrounding areas. The statement comes amid ongoing discussions about government continuity, abandoned projects and the need for successive administrations to complete development programmes started by previous governments. Wike maintained that the FCT Administration would continue to focus on projects that directly improve the lives of residents and strengthen Abuja’s position as Nigeria’s capital city.
