VP Shettima: Nigeria’s Mining Sector Attracted $2.6bn in 30 Months

Vice President Kashim Shettima has disclosed that Nigeria’s mining sector has attracted approximately $2.6 billion in investments within the last 30 months, describing it as a strong signal of growing investor confidence in the country’s solid minerals industry. He made the remark while highlighting key economic gains under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration Shettima said the inflow of capital into the mining sector reflects ongoing reforms aimed at diversifying Nigeria’s economy away from overreliance on oil and gas. According to him, the government’s efforts to improve regulatory transparency, security in mining areas, and ease of doing business have helped reposition the sector as a viable destination for both local and foreign investors. The Vice President noted that the administration is actively prioritising non-oil sectors, with mining identified as a critical pillar for industrial growth, job creation, and export expansion. He added that the development of solid minerals will play a key role in strengthening Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings and boosting regional economic competitiveness. Shettima stressed that the $2.6 billion investment inflow within 30 months is evidence that reforms are beginning to yield results, while also signalling renewed global interest in Nigeria’s untapped mineral resources. He assured that the Federal Government remains committed to sustaining policies that encourage responsible mining and value-added processing within the country. Reaffirming the administration’s agenda, Shettima stated that economic transformation through strategic sectors like mining remains central to the government’s long-term development plan. He called on stakeholders in the sector to collaborate with government in ensuring sustainable exploitation of mineral resources for national development.
