US Consulate, FBI Seek Stronger EFCC Collaboration to Combat Sextortion, Cybercrime The United States Consulate in Lagos and the Federal Bureau of Investigation FBI have called for stronger information sharing and cooperation with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC to tackle sextortion, cybercrime, and transnational financial crimes. The call was made during a meeting between United States officials and the Acting Director of the EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, ACE I Bawa Kaltungo, where both sides discussed ways to deepen collaboration in combating emerging criminal activities. The US officials emphasised the importance of improved intelligence exchange and coordinated efforts among law enforcement agencies to address crimes that increasingly cross international borders. Responding, Kaltungo assured the delegation of the EFCC’s commitment to sustaining cooperation with international partners, particularly in strengthening investigations and enhancing efforts against financial and cyber-related offences.

The partnership reflects ongoing Nigeria-US security cooperation aimed at improving the fight against organised crime, protecting victims of online exploitation, and disrupting networks involved in illicit financial activities. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to working together to promote safer digital spaces and strengthen enforcement mechanisms against transnational crimes.
