The incident occurred amid separate concerns over flooding in parts of the state, where a teenage hawker narrowly escaped death after being swept away by floodwaters According to TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the crash involved a Hanvan truck with registration number LAR 716 XB and a white Howo truck that reportedly had no registration number. Six male occupants were involved in the collision. Akinbiyi stated that preliminary investigations indicated that excessive speed was responsible for the accident. He explained that the driver of the Howo truck allegedly lost control and rammed head-on into the Hanvan truck, resulting in the fatal crash.The impact of the collision claimed the lives of two occupants at the scene, while four others sustained injuries. Good Samaritans reportedly assisted in rescuing the injured victims and transported them to a hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue of Idera Hospital in Sagamu.. Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to exercise caution and comply with road safety rules to reduce fatalities.Meanwhile, in a separate incident linked to heavy rainfall in Ogun State, a 13-year-old vegetable hawker identified simply as Ademidun narrowly escaped death after being swept away by floodwaters in the Ilugun-Itoko area of Ajangboun, Odeda Local Government Area. Witnesses said the teenager fell into a drainage channel while attempting to cross a flooded section of the road during a torrential downpour. Residents immediately raised an alarm, prompting a large-scale search operation involving community members and local leaders. Community leaders, including the area’s Baale and his chiefs, coordinated rescue efforts that continued after the rainfall subsided. The boy was eventually discovered clinging to a tree in a nearby canal, having been carried a considerable distance by the strong flood current. Sources said Ademidun sustained facial injuries and was bleeding when rescuers found him. He was subsequently taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, where he is receiving medical treatment. The full extent of his injuries was not immediately disclosed. The two incidents have renewed concerns over road safety and flood management in Ogun State, particularly during the rainy season when heavy downpours increase the risk of traffic accidents and flooding. Residents have called on authorities to strengthen drainage infrastructure, improve road safety enforcement, and intensify public awareness campaigns to prevent avoidable tragedies. Officials continue to urge motorists to avoid excessive speeding and advise residents, especially children and street traders, to stay away from flood-prone areas during heavy rainfall as the state enters the peak of the rainy season.
