Troops Of The Nigerian Armed Forces
Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have neutralised a senior Boko Haram commander alongside 10 other terrorists during a coordinated night operation in Borno State, security sources confirmed on Monday.
The operation, conducted by troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai, followed actionable intelligence on the movement and hideouts of insurgent elements in a remote area of the state long plagued by extremist violence. Military sources said the raid was executed with precision, resulting in the elimination of the high-value Boko Haram commander, believed to have played a key role in planning attacks against both civilians and security personnel in the North-East.
Details of the Operation According to the military, troops advanced on the terrorists’ location under the cover of darkness, engaging the insurgents in a fierce gun battle that led to the neutralisation of 11 fighters. Recovered from the scene were:
Several AK-47 rifles
Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components
Communication equipment and logistics supplies
No casualties were reported among the troops, while the operation is said to have disrupted ongoing plans by the group to launch attacks in surrounding communities. The Nigerian Army described the operation as a major operational success, noting that the neutralised commander was on the military’s watchlist for orchestrating ambushes, kidnappings, and attacks on soft targets.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups operating in the North-East, stressing that intelligence-driven operations remain central to degrading the remaining capabilities of Boko Haram and its splinter factions.
Borno State has remained the epicentre of Nigeria’s insurgency for over a decade, with Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) continuing to pose security threats despite sustained military offensives.Security analysts say the elimination of senior commanders weakens terrorist command structures, disrupts recruitment, and limits their operational reach, though they caution that sustained operations are required to consolidate gains.
Government’s Position The latest success aligns with the Federal Government’s renewed push to restore lasting peace and stability across conflict-affected regions under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Authorities have continued to urge residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.Military operations are ongoing in parts of Borno and neighbouring states, with troops maintaining heightened vigilance to prevent reprisal attacks and to ensure the protection of civilian populations.
