Troops Foil Boko Haram Extortion Operation, Kill Terrorist Driver in Yobe Troops of Sector 2, North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai OPHK have disrupted an alleged Boko Haram extortion operation along the Paya-Kafiya axis of Yobe State, killing a suspected terrorist driver during the encounter. According to military authorities, troops received intelligence about a planned Boko Haram extortion mission targeting residents and commuters in the area. The troops moved to intercept the insurgents along the Paya-Kafiya route, where they engaged the terrorists and successfully prevented the operation from being carried out. During the confrontation, a suspected Boko Haram member who was operating as a driver was neutralised, while other members of the group reportedly fled the scene. The latest operation is part of continued counter-terrorism efforts under Operation Hadin Kai, the military campaign focused on tackling Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province ISWAP activities in the North-East. Security forces have continued to conduct patrols, intelligence-led operations, and targeted missions aimed at disrupting terrorist logistics, supply routes, and attacks on civilian populations. The military said the success demonstrates the importance of intelligence gathering and cooperation between security forces and local communities in preventing attacks and criminal activities.

Residents in affected areas of Yobe and neighbouring states have faced years of insecurity linked to insurgency, including attacks, displacement, and illegal taxation or extortion by armed groups. Authorities said troops remain deployed across vulnerable locations to maintain pressure on terrorist groups and prevent attempts to impose illegal control over communities. The military has urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies to support ongoing operations against insurgent groups.
