Tinubu Welcomes Hanga And Gaya To APC As Kano Political Realignment Intensifies
Tinubu Welcomes Hanga and Gaya to APC as Kano Political Realignment Intensifies President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally received Senator Rufai Hanga and former Senator Kabiru Gaya into the All Progressives Congress APC at the State House, Abuja, in a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The two Kano political figures were welcomed by President Tinubu during a meeting at the Presidential Villa, with Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, leading the delegation. Senator Rufai Hanga, who represents Kano Central Senatorial District, and Senator Kabiru Gaya, a former governor of Kano State and former senator representing Kano South, were previously associated with opposition politics before their move to the ruling party. The move is being viewed as a significant boost for the APC’s political structure in Kano State and a setback for the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Reports indicate that both politicians had disagreements within their former political platform over party positions and electoral arrangements, leading to their decision to return to the APC. President Tinubu reportedly described their return as a step towards greater unity and political cooperation, while Hanga and Gaya reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The development comes as political parties begin strengthening their alliances and structures ahead of the 2027 elections, with Kano expected to remain one of the key battleground states in Nigeria’s political landscape.
