Tinubu Mourns Emir of Gumel, Hails 46 Years of Visionary Reign

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, describing the late traditional ruler’s 46-year reign as a period marked by visionary leadership, wisdom and service to his people. The President extended his condolences to the Emir’s family, the people of Gumel Emirate and the government and people of Jigawa State over the passing of the respected monarch. President Tinubu described the late Emir as a distinguished traditional ruler whose contributions to the development and stability of his community would remain remembered. He commended the monarch’s long reign, noting that his 46 years on the throne represented a significant chapter in the history of the Gumel Emirate. The President said Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II provided steady leadership and served as an important custodian of the culture, traditions and values of his people. He acknowledged the late Emir’s role in promoting peace, unity and development within the emirate and beyond. According to the President, the monarch’s wisdom and experience made him an important figure whose counsel was valued by successive administrations and stakeholders. Tinubu prayed for the repose of the late Emir’s soul and asked Almighty Allah to grant him eternal rest. He also prayed for strength and comfort for the monarch’s family, the emirate and all those mourning his passing. The late Emir ascended the throne in 1980, beginning a reign that lasted approximately 46 years. Over the decades, he witnessed and participated in major political, social and economic changes in Nigeria while maintaining his position as the traditional head of the Gumel Emirate. His long tenure made him one of the country’s longest-serving traditional rulers. The President said the length of the monarch’s reign reflected the confidence and respect he commanded among his people. President Tinubu extended his condolences to the Governor of Jigawa State, the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, members of the Gumel Emirate Council and residents of the emirate. He urged the people of Gumel to draw strength from the late Emir’s legacy of service and commitment to the development of his people. The President said the contributions of traditional rulers remain important to maintaining peace, unity and social cohesion in communities across Nigeria. He described the late Emir’s passing as a loss not only to Gumel but also to Jigawa State and the wider traditional institution. As mourners continue to pay tribute to the late monarch, the people of Gumel Emirate are expected to begin preparations for his burial in accordance with Islamic traditions.
