Tinubu Approves ₦46 Billion for Reconstruction of Kano Airport Runway President Bola Tinubu has approved ₦46 billion for the reconstruction of the second runway at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, as part of efforts to improve aviation infrastructure and enhance the airport’s operational capacity.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed the approval in Kano, saying the project was aimed at positioning the airport to compete with leading international aviation facilities. He noted that the reconstruction would improve efficiency, strengthen safety standards, and support increased air traffic operations. Keyamo said the investment reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to upgrading critical aviation infrastructure across the country. He added that the Kano airport project would contribute to economic growth by improving connectivity, facilitating trade, and supporting passenger and cargo movement. The Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport is one of Nigeria’s oldest and busiest airports, serving as a major gateway for northern Nigeria and international travellers. The reconstruction of the additional runway is expected to improve flight operations and reduce pressure on existing facilities. The project is part of broader aviation sector reforms by the Federal Government aimed at modernising airports, improving service delivery, and strengthening Nigeria’s position within the global aviation industry.
