PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES RANGERS ON WINNING THE NIGERIAN LEAGUE TITLE President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Rangers International Football Club of Enugu for winning the Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL title, describing the achievement as a testament to the club’s rich history, resilience, and contribution to Nigerian football. In a statement issued by the Presidency through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the players, coaching staff, management, and supporters of the Enugu-based club for securing the league crown with an impressive performance across the season. President Tinubu noted that Rangers finished the campaign at the top of the table with 68 points from 38 matches, ahead of strong contenders including Rivers United, and commended the team’s consistency and discipline throughout the season. He also reflected on the club’s proud legacy in Nigerian football, recalling its dominance in the 1970s and 1980s, when Rangers won multiple domestic titles and achieved continental success, including reaching the final of the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1975 and winning the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977. “As one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria, Rangers have produced some of the nation’s finest football players who went on to make the country proud on the global stage. I am proud of their achievement,” the President said. Tinubu further commended Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, stating that the victory reflects ongoing investments in youth and sports development in the state. He also praised Rivers United for their strong performance during the season and their display of sportsmanship, describing them as worthy competitors. The President wished both Rangers International FC and Rivers United success as they prepare to represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League, expressing optimism that Nigerian clubs will continue to excel on the continental stage.
