Police Arrest Suspected Mastermind of Mangu Attack That Killed 25

The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a key suspect believed to be the mastermind of Tuesday’s deadly attack on Bimper village in Mangu Local Government Area, which left 25 people dead and four others injured. The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, making it the third attack recorded in Mangu within a week, according to Channels Television. Police Public Relations Officer SP Alfred Alabo confirmed the arrest, saying investigations are ongoing while security operatives continue a manhunt for other suspected attackers who remain at large.

Following the killings, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Maxwell Dangana, moved his tactical office to Mangu for two weeks. The Army has also launched “Operation Hard Nut”, aimed at flushing out terrorists and other criminal elements operating in the area and restoring confidence among residents. Additional troops and equipment have reportedly been approved by the Chief of Army Staff to strengthen operations in Mangu and surrounding communities. Dangana urged troops to remain professional and neutral, while calling on residents to provide credible intelligence that could help security agencies identify those behind the attacks. The latest violence has heightened fears among residents, who are demanding stronger security measures to prevent further attacks. The repeated attacks in Mangu have renewed concerns about the security situation in Plateau State, while the arrest of a suspected mastermind could provide investigators with important leads on the wider network behind the violence. Police have arrested a man they believe masterminded Tuesday’s attack in Mangu that killed 25 people. Security forces are continuing operations and a wider manhunt as authorities seek to prevent further violence.
