Oyo State Police Command Has Arrested 10 Suspected Human Parts Merchants

Oyo state Police Command has arrested 10 suspected human-parts merchants following months of intelligence gathering, surveillance and monitoring of their activities across the state. According to the command, the suspects were arrested at their various hideouts in the Iseyin and Saki areas during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Command Monitoring Unit. Police operatives subsequently searched the suspects’ hideouts and recovered several items suspected to be human remains, including one suspected human heart, human flesh and pieces of human skull, alongside assorted charms. The recovered exhibits have been secured for forensic examination and further investigation to establish their origin and intended use. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspects allegedly confessed to involvement in the trading of human parts for different ritual purposes. Investigators are now working to determine how the suspected remains were obtained and whether other individuals are connected to the alleged network. The police said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected members of the syndicate. Oyo State Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting human life and tackling criminal activities across the state. The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist authorities in preventing and detecting criminal activities.The discovery highlights continuing concerns over criminal networks allegedly involved in the trafficking and use of human remains for ritual purposes. Ten suspects are in police custody following an intelligence-led operation in Oyo State, with suspected human remains recovered from their hideouts.
