According to the latest figures, the Thameslink service between Bedford and Three Bridges recorded the highest load factor among peak services, reaching 176% at its busiest point near London St Pancras International. A West Midlands Railway service from London Euston to Crewe was also among the most heavily loaded, reaching 170% at peak times. Other highly crowded services included routes operated by Transport for Wales, South Western Railway and Thameslink, reflecting continued pressure on some commuter lines. The government said rail demand patterns continue to change, with some routes seeing strong passenger growth after the pandemic. While overall overcrowding remains limited across the wider network, officials acknowledged that certain peak-hour services face significant capacity challenges.
