Osun Records 73 Election Related Violent Incidents, 29 Deaths Ahead of August 15 Poll No fewer than 73 election-related violent incidents, resulting in 29 deaths, have been recorded in Osun State ahead of the August 15 election, according to a Pre-Election Security Risk Assessment by the Kimpact Development Initiative KDI.

The report, released ahead of the poll, highlights growing security concerns surrounding the election and identifies several incidents of violence recorded across the state during the pre-election period.

According to the assessment, the reported incidents have led to significant loss of lives, raising concerns among stakeholders over the safety of voters, political actors, electoral officials and other participants in the electoral process. KDI urged relevant security agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen preventive measures and ensure adequate protection before, during and after the election. The organisation also called on political parties, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders to refrain from actions capable of escalating tensions, urging them to commit to peaceful campaigns and the resolution of disputes through lawful channels. With the August 15 poll approaching, stakeholders have continued to emphasise the importance of effective security coordination and early intervention to prevent further violence and safeguard the electoral process. The report underscores the need for sustained monitoring and rapid response to emerging security threats as Osun prepares for the election.
