Nigeria Police Appoints Anthony Okon Placid as Force Public Relations Officer Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force has announced the appointment of Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), following approval by the Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

Placid, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), takes over the role from Benjamin Hundeyin, who previously served as the national spokesperson of the police The appointment was confirmed in a statement from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, marking another key administrative change within the police following the emergence of a new police leadership.

The decision forms part of a broader reorganisation of the Force Public Relations Unit aimed at strengthening communication between the police and the public. Officials say the new spokesman will oversee media relations, public communication, and information dissemination for the Nigeria Police Force.

Anthony Okon Placid is a seasoned officer with decades of experience in policing, administration and operations. Born in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, he joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1996 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and was officially commissioned into the force in 1998. Over the years, he has served in various operational and administrative roles across the country, gaining experience in law enforcement strategy and police public communication. Placid replaces Benjamin Hundeyin, who served as Force Public Relations Officer after being appointed in September 2025. Hundeyin’s tenure was marked by strong engagement with the public through both traditional and digital media platforms. Security analysts say the appointment reflects the police leadership’s effort to strengthen transparency and improve public engagement, particularly at a time when security challenges and public scrutiny of law enforcement remain high in Nigeria.
