New Oxygen Plant at UTH Orlu Boosts Medical Care in Imo State

The newly installed oxygen production facility at the University Teaching Hospital UTH, Orlu, has begun strengthening healthcare delivery and emergency medical services in Imo State by improving access to medical oxygen for patients. The facility, inspected during the Renewed Hope National Media Tour in the South East, has the capacity to produce 65 cubic metres of medical oxygen daily, reducing dependence on external supplies and addressing previous challenges associated with oxygen availability in healthcare facilities.

Health officials said the project is expected to enhance emergency response capacity, support critical care services and ensure a more reliable supply of life-saving oxygen for patients requiring respiratory support. The oxygen plant forms part of broader efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government to improve healthcare infrastructure, expand access to essential medical services and build a more resilient health system. The inspection highlighted ongoing investments aimed at strengthening healthcare institutions across the country, particularly through the provision of critical facilities and equipment needed for effective patient care.
