NELFUND Disburses ₦2.1 Billion Loans to 7,382 Students at UNIOSUN, KIU The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the successful disbursement of ₦2,109,980,200 in institutional loans to support students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) and Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU) for the 2025/2026 academic session. In a statement shared on its official social media account on Wednesday, the fund said a total of 7,382 students from the two institutions benefited from the intervention, with the majority of the funds allocated to UNIOSUN students. According to the breakdown of the disbursement, ₦2,038,534,000 was credited to 5,924 UNIOSUN beneficiaries across six separate batches, while ₦71,446,200 was disbursed to 1,458 students at KIU. The loans, which are part of the federal government’s educational financing programme, are meant to ease the financial burden on students by covering tuition and related institutional charges. Institutional loans are paid directly to the universities on behalf of students.

NELFUND’s disbursement underscores the ongoing efforts to expand access to higher education in Nigeria through interest‑free loans, a policy aimed at improving enrolment and retention rates among students from low‑ and middle‑income families. The fund has continued to roll out disbursements across the country, working with tertiary institutions to ensure that eligible students benefit from its lending scheme.
