Navy Hands Over Suspected Military Imposters to Police

The Nigerian Navy Ship VICTORY has handed over two suspected military imposters to the Nigeria Police Force State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Calabar for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The suspects, David Norbert Aleji and Francis Gideon Isaac, were arrested on March 10, 2026, after they were found dressed in military camouflage and in possession of fake military identification cards while allegedly posing as personnel of the Nigerian Navy. Preliminary investigations revealed that Aleji allegedly impersonated a Nigerian Navy Lieutenant, while Isaac posed as a Midshipman, falsely claiming that they were serving aboard Nigerian Navy Ship SAGBAMA. According to naval authorities, a search conducted at the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of additional military-related items, including a jungle hat and boots, believed to have been used to support their impersonation activities. Investigators also discovered that Aleji, who reportedly received some training at the Maritime Academy of Nigeria in Oron, was the mastermind of the scheme and had recruited Isaac, who was living with him.

During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to purchasing the military uniforms and accessories themselves and producing the fake identity cards, which they used to impersonate naval officers. Naval authorities emphasized that the suspects have now been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution. The Navy also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report cases of military impersonation to relevant authorities. Meanwhile, the Navy reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the service and protecting the public from individuals who falsely present themselves as military personnel.
