National Statement by His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2026

Nigeria Champions Climate Action, Sustainable Growth and Global Partnerships at High-Level Sustainability Forum

ABU DHABI, UAE — His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, delivered a national statement at the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable development, climate action, inclusive growth and global collaboration. The global summit, themed “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go”, convenes world leaders, policymakers, businesses and civil society to chart pathways toward a resilient, equitable and climate-friendly future.

President Tinubu emphasised that sustainability and climate resilience are central to Nigeria’s development strategy, and urged international partners to mobilise resources, technology and investment to accelerate climate action in developing economies. He underscored that climate change, energy, economic growth and social inclusion are interlinked and must be addressed collectively.

“At this defining moment in history, Nigeria stands with the global community, moving beyond dialogue toward delivery. We are committed to deploying technologies that improve green efficiency, modernise infrastructure and accelerate sustainable energy access for underserved communities,” the President stated, highlighting Nigeria’s readiness to partner with global investors and stakeholders.

Tinubu outlined Nigeria’s energy transition and climate finance priorities, noting that the country is advancing its National Climate Change Fund, targeting approximately $2 billion in capital mobilisation for low-emission and climate-resilient infrastructure projects. As part of Nigeria’s Climate Investment Platform, the government is seeking support to mobilise at least $500 million in green financing that will support renewable energy, technology transfer, knowledge exchange and innovation.

The President also highlighted Nigeria’s progress on economic reforms and non-oil sector growth, citing a 21 % rise in non-oil exports and more than $50 billion in investment commitments across key sectors — evidence of expanding investor confidence in the country’s sustainability and growth trajectory.

President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s net-zero emissions commitment by 2060, calling on partners to support equitable climate finance solutions that do not leave developing economies behind. He stated that access to green finance, technology and capacity building is essential for meaningful progress on climate goals without compromising national development priorities.

Significant bilateral cooperation developments were also highlighted, including the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, aimed at deepening cooperation in renewable energy, agriculture, trade, infrastructure and climate-smart industries. The agreement underscores strengthened diplomatic and economic ties between both nations.

President Tinubu reiterated that global sustainability efforts must align economic growth with climate resilience, and that Nigeria will continue to be a proactive partner in international initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable development and tackling climate change — all under the framework of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises inclusive prosperity, job creation and environmental stewardship.
