Naga Munchetty To Leave BBC Breakfast After 17 Years For Radio 5 Live Role
Naga Munchetty to Leave BBC Breakfast After 17 Years for Radio 5 Live Role BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty is set to leave the flagship morning television programme after 17 years and move to a new role as co-presenter of BBC Radio 5 Live’s Breakfast show.
Munchetty, who joined the BBC Breakfast presenting team in 2009, will leave the programme’s familiar studio sofa at the end of the year before beginning her new radio role in January. She has also presented BBC Radio 5 Live’s weekday mid-morning programme since 2021. The broadcaster said she was excited by the opportunity to lead the national radio breakfast programme, highlighting her interest in live news, conversations with audiences and covering issues that matter to listeners. Munchetty will replace the current Radio 5 Live Breakfast presenting team of Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards, who are due to step down from the programme in December. Burden is expected to move to the station’s weekday mid-morning slot, while Edwards will continue with other broadcasting work. BBC executives praised Munchetty’s contribution to BBC Breakfast and said she would be missed by viewers who had followed her work on the programme over many years. The BBC is expected to announce future arrangements for the BBC Breakfast presenting line-up in due course.
