During the inspection, officials discovered suspected counterfeit variants of Colgate toothpaste, including products labelled Colgate ActivGel 100g and Colgate Herbal 100g, being sold in a retail outlet without proper regulatory approval or registration numbers. NAFDAC confirmed that the products were immediately removed from the shop, while investigations are ongoing to trace the supply chain and identify those responsible for distributing the unregistered items. The agency noted that the shop owner claimed the products were supplied by a door-to-door distributor but failed to provide proof of purchase or documentation verifying their origin.

Officials warned that the counterfeit products do not meet required safety and quality standards, stressing that they pose “a potential risk to public health and safety” if consumed by unsuspecting users.
