NAFDAC Begins Nationwide Crackdown on Banned Sachet and Small PET Bottle Alcohol The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC has commenced a nationwide enforcement exercise to remove alcoholic drinks packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml from the Nigerian market.

The move reinforces the Federal Government’s ban on the production, importation, distribution and sale of the affected alcoholic products, as part of efforts to protect public health and reduce the risks associated with alcohol misuse, particularly among underage persons. NAFDAC warned manufacturers, distributors, retailers and other stakeholders that anyone found producing, storing or selling the banned products could face regulatory action, including seizure of goods, sanctions and possible prosecution.

The agency urged members of the public to support the enforcement campaign by reporting individuals and businesses involved in the production or sale of the prohibited alcoholic drinks.

According to NAFDAC, the restriction is aimed at addressing concerns over easy access to high-strength alcoholic beverages, especially products sold in small quantities and packaging formats that may encourage harmful consumption patterns. The agency said its officers would continue inspections across the country to ensure compliance with the directive and protect consumers from the health and social consequences linked to alcohol abuse.

NAFDAC also called on manufacturers and traders to comply with existing regulations, warning that violations would attract appropriate penalties.
