Julius Berger Delivers 19.79km Road, Seven Bridges in River

Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has completed the 19.79-kilometre Buguma-Abalama-Tema-Degema-Abonnema Road in Rivers State, alongside the rehabilitation of seven bridges along the strategic riverine corridor. The project, which cuts across Asari-Toru, Degema and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas, was commissioned on Monday by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The reconstructed road is expected to improve transportation and connectivity among several riverine communities, reduce travel time and enhance access to businesses, properties and other economic opportunities. The project also involved the rehabilitation of seven existing bridges located around Ido, Abalama and neighbouring communities. According to the state Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, the road was constructed with 50mm asphaltic binder and wearing courses, while the project also included culverts, reinforced-concrete drainage channels, concrete walkways and streetlights. The drainage channels range from 0.5 to 2.2 metres in width, with the infrastructure designed to improve the road’s durability and resilience Fubara said the road had previously deteriorated to a point where motorists and residents faced significant hardship and security concerns. He described the completed project as a major boost to transportation, security and economic activities in the riverine communities, saying the improved corridor would make it more difficult for criminal activities to thrive along the route. The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the Trans-Kalabari Highway, another major project intended to improve connectivity across Rivers State’s coastal communities. Julius Berger’s successful delivery of the road marks a significant infrastructure milestone for the affected communities, providing a safer and more reliable link between Buguma, Abalama, Tema, Degema and Abonnema.
