‘I Want To Enjoy Nigeria In My Old Age,’ Remi Tinubu Seeks Support for President’s Re-Election First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has appealed to women and voters in the South-East to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking at a women’s empowerment programme in Owerri, Imo State, Mrs Tinubu said she wants her husband re-elected because she hopes to witness and enjoy a prosperous Nigeria in her old ago. Addressing the gathering, the First Lady urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu at the polls. “Make una vote for Mr President, we go work for una and Nigeria go better,” she said, adding that she wanted to “enjoy Nigeria at old age. Her appeal comes as political parties and opposition groups intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections. The empowerment programme, coordinated through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, is targeting 18,500 women nationwide. In the South-East, 500 women from each of the five states received business equipment to support their livelihoods. The items distributed included generators, grinding machines, gas cylinders and industrial ovens. In Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodimma sponsored equipment for an additional 2,000 women, bringing the number of beneficiaries in the state to 2,500. Mrs Tinubu also announced a ₦100,000 cash grant for each beneficiary present at the event. President Tinubu, who won the 2023 presidential election, is seeking another four-year term under the platform of the All Progressives Congress APC. His administration has implemented major economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, foreign exchange reforms and changes to the tax system. The reforms have, however, attracted criticism from opposition parties and some Nigerians over their impact on living costs, including food and transport prices, as well as concerns over insecurity. The First Lady’s call for support in Imo is part of the administration’s wider political engagement ahead of the 2027 election. Her message focused on the need for Nigerians to support the government’s efforts while linking her personal desire for a prosperous Nigeria to the President’s re-election campaign. The 2027 presidential election is expected to feature a major contest involving President Tinubu and leading opposition figures, as political parties continue to mobilise supporters across the country.
