A fire outbreak has destroyed part of a commercial building in the Akowonjo area of Lagos State, with emergency responders successfully containing the blaze. The incident occurred at a commercial store around Jimoh Bus Stop, Egbeda-Akowonjo, with footage shared on social media showing thick smoke billowing from the rooftop of the building. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters responded swiftly to the incident and contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the building and nearby properties. According to the agency, the affected area was the second floor of the commercial building, which housed an electronics section. Firefighters carried out suppression operations, while recovery and mop-up activities continued after the flames were extinguished. The cause of the fire was linked to a possible issue involving an alternative power source solar inverter system, although further assessment is expected to confirm the circumstances surrounding the outbreak. No casualties were recorded in the incident, according to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
