FIFA Targets Congo FA Chiefs Over Alleged Financial Misconduct

World football governing body, FIFA, has launched disciplinary proceedings against top officials of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT) over allegations of financial misconduct involving funds allocated for football development. FIFA confirmed that its Ethics Committee has begun formal investigations into senior officials of the federation following an internal audit that uncovered irregularities. The probe is being handled by FIFA’s independent Ethics Committee, which is responsible for investigating breaches of football governance rules and financial integrity. According to FIFA, the action was triggered after reviewing documents suggesting possible misuse and mismanagement of funds provided to the federation.

The trio are alleged to have been involved in financial irregularities, including the handling of FIFA development funds meant for projects such as infrastructure and women’s football. The FIFA investigation comes on the heels of a major legal development in Congo-Brazzaville, where a criminal court reportedly convicted the officials over embezzlement-related offences. Mayolas was sentenced to life imprisonment, alongside members of his family, after being found guilty of misappropriating more than $1 million in FIFA funds.

Badji and Kanda were also handed five-year prison sentences for their roles in the case. Reports indicate the accused were tried in absentia, with their whereabouts currently unknown. The investigation is expected to examine multiple potential violations of FIFA’s Code of Ethics, including
