FG Strengthens Partnership with Cross River to Boost Automotive Development The Federal Government has moved to deepen collaboration with the Cross River State Government as part of efforts to accelerate Nigeria’s automotive development and promote local vehicle production. The partnership is aimed at supporting the growth of the automotive industry through increased investment, skills development, technology transfer and the creation of new opportunities within the sector. Officials said the collaboration aligns with the government’s broader plan to strengthen local manufacturing, reduce dependence on imported vehicles and position Nigeria as a major automotive hub in Africa.

The initiative is expected to encourage private-sector participation, attract investors and support the development of an efficient automotive value chain, including vehicle assembly, component manufacturing and maintenance services. Cross River State, with its strategic location and industrial potential, has been identified as a key partner in advancing automotive-related projects. The state government has expressed readiness to provide support that will enable businesses and investors to operate effectively.

The Federal Government noted that developing the automotive sector would contribute to job creation, economic diversification and improved technical capacity among Nigerian workers.

Stakeholders in the industry have continued to call for stronger government policies, improved infrastructure and incentives to help local manufacturers compete with imported vehicle brands.

The partnership also reflects ongoing efforts by the government to promote industrialisation and encourage the growth of sectors capable of creating sustainable employment opportunities for young Nigerians.
